About Us
Who are we?
We are a leading suicide prevention service provider for the state of Colorado and the nation. We first started to help reduce the suicide rate in one county, but out of necessity we have expanded to twenty one counties.
We work closely with organizations and industries which have been impacted by suicide. We assist with prevention, crisis intervention, and postvention efforts.
Who is our team?
We have a small efficient staff that provides endless energy and passion for suicide research and prevention. Through the work of our Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers we are able to provide over 3500 hours of suicide prevention training each year. Countless lives have been saved through passionate students applying their education in the communities.
What are our goals?
We train organizations and community members to ensure that all workers and managers know of our services and feel comfortable talking about suicide prevention.
What do we do?
We have formed numerous partnerships with other organizations in order to help reduce suicide, stress, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, suicidal behaviors, alcohol use, and many other issues in the lives of our communities.
We research global, national, and local statistics to determine target areas of focus for suicide prevention efforts. We use only Best Practice curriculum wherever possible.
We attempt to reduce the over all impact of suicide at all levels by providing new hope to the community.
Where do we do it?
We deliver our knowledge to workplaces and community settings who have the potential to be impacted by suicide. We deliver our knowledge of suicide prevention from the board room to the field.
What motivates us?
By setting high standards, we develop programs that meet the needs of our communities to alleviate suicide.
- We confidently face this daunting challenge of life.
- We "walk the talk." We develop programs that meet the suicide resources needs of our communities.
- We have all lost someone to suicide, but refuse to be silenced.
- When we find target populations at risk, we immediately engage that group in suicide prevention efforts.
- We operate with honesty and integrity with all stakeholders.
- We are solution driven in our approach.
- We take pride in maintaining an open and collaborative culture in order to address this problem at all levels.
- We focus on the future of our communities.

About the Foundation
Mission Statement
The Western Colorado Suicide Prevention Foundation is committed to reducing suicide in Western Colorado and other adjacent geographical areas by providing suicide awareness and prevention programs, suicide prevention education and training programs, and funding other suicide prevention efforts and activities.
Case Statement
The Western Colorado Suicide Prevention Foundation was formed out of need in our community. A small group of organizations got together to form a coalition to prevent suicide. That coalition began research and implemented a number of programs to help reduce the suicide rates in our area. We were initially grant funded and are now a self-sustaining non-profit organization. Our suicide rate has remained nearly twice that of the United States rate since 2000 so there is much more work that needs to be done.
